There are Currently 4 Guides, all written in order which detail the various elements of Bedrock for Joomla:
(part 1) (part 2) (part 3) (part 4)

Often when I install templates they only look 20% as they do on the demo page. When I install it will it actually look like your demo page?

The template package you download contains the bedrock.zip file which is the Joomla template file you need to install in the Joomla Extension Manager. You also need to install com_chimera.1.0.1.zip which is a back-end framework which transforms your template parameter section from [screen01.png] to [screen02.png]. There are instructions included in the zip package which explains how to do this. Also included in the zip package are instructions on how to install the demo content so that you can get your site looking just like the demo.

Does the template include the picture gallery and the video section or are those separate extensions that I need to purhcase and install?

The photo gallery and video section are all built into the template. Actually everything is built into the template, from the tool tips, to the images, slideshows, video, featured text, and portfolio sections. You can also turn your site into a blog view like it is on the demo here or you can make it full screen like it is here

What exactly is Chimera?

Chimera is a back-end framework which transforms your back-end to a better looking and more manageable area (see screenshot). It also enhances the standard Joomla article section where you can add a featured section (eg. images/slideshow/video) to your article. You do not need to do anything with it itself, it will merely enhance your back-end, however it is essential for your template to work correctly so make sure that you have it installed on your website.

Is the purchase of Bedrock a one-off purchase?

The price is $45 for a single-site license. If you would like to use the template on another website you will have to purchase the template again. We will gladly help you with support if you need it.

How is the accordion and suckerfish menu created?

These are made using standard Joomla menus. Create a menu, add items and add second level items as well then go into your Bedrock Template Params (Chimera) and set the Side Menu and Top Menu Name for the accordion to the menu you created.

General Bedrock Questions:

How do I add a description below a feature element?

The Description is just your article body text. If you add a video feature to an article and then in the article text area write what you like it will display below as text for the article.

How do I filter the grid content like on the demo site, for live filtering?

Say you are creating some video grid boxes - add the Chimera Article Suffix "video" to each of your video articles. Then create a new menu item, select the URL type and set the URL to #video. This will tell the grid to filter all boxes labeled video. The power in this is that you can filter on any text value you like, and as many as you like!

With Chimera Article Parameters, what can be done with the 'Chimera Class Suffix' and how is this used ?

As above, for filtering - and also to set the box width (use "single" "double" or "triple" - this collates to your box width set in the Bedrock template params.

There are some module positions in 1.7 that do nothing, why?

A lot of these module positions are added in by default by Joomla 1.6 & 1.7 - Bedrock uses its own module positions and we cannot remove the references to those Joomla default positions, so unfortunately they will still show up in the list. Working Bedrock Positions are explained as below:

slogan top for your site or custom HTML
left bar multiple module elements on all pages
right article view sub sidebar multiple module elements
subone, subtwo, subthree the three base sub footer module areas
footer for the footer menu or custom HTML

How come some grid items look like images with just titles

Add a suffix to that type of article called "portfolio" - set show info block to "no" and show heading to "yes" - this will style the box like a portfolio gallery item - and as a normal article when opened.

The featured image/slideshow images don't show up saying that it cannot find them even though they are there and entered correctly

The PHP function getimagesize() is returning null. There are two options to get this working:.

1. Enable the cURL php library extension on your server. Speak to your hosting provider on how to do this if you are unsure of how to go about this yourself.

2. Set allow_url_fopen to On in your servers php.ini file. This function is only needed to determine the image dimensions so that it can align correctly into the box space, therefore this will not affect any security concerns. Speak to you hosting provider on how to do this if you are unsure of how to go about this yourself.
