Creating Categories and Content Items for your slideshow

After following the Kupo Slides Component and Module Install Guide you are now ready to start populating your galleries and slideshows with some data. This tutorial is aimed at Kupo Slides Pro users but a similar process can be followed for Kupo Slides Base.

Firstly, In your websites administration (http://yoursite.url/administrator/index.php) go to Components -> Kupo -> Installation Checklist and make sure that everything checks okay. Please ignore the language file overrides which might be in red. These are missing on purpose so that you can override with your own language file.

This section is optional but it will greatly help you get started by actually showing you how groups, categories and content items tie in together and how to setup your Kupo Slides Display module:

• 0.1 In your websites administration (http://yoursite.url/administrator/index.php) go to Components -> Kupo
• 0.2 You are now in the Kupo Control Panel. Now go to Extension Manager.
• 0.3 In the table check the box next to Kupo Slides Pro (default).
• 0.4 Now click on Create Demo.
• 0.5 Read the message and click Yes to confirm.
• 0.6 You are done, now have a look at your website (http://yoursite.url/index.php).
• Note: For Joomla 1.6, you need to modify the module position to position-12 for example of the module called Kupo Slides Pro Sample Module in the Joomla Module Manager.

If you have followed the steps above, it will significantly help you to setup your galleries and slides (called categories and content in Kupo Pro). If not, not to worry, we are going to manually create them now. Each section will be broken down into sections:

• 1. In your websites administration (http://yoursite.url/administrator/index.php) go to Components -> Kupo
• 1.1 You are now in the Kupo Control Panel. Now go to Groups / Group Management.
• 1.2 Click on New to create a new Group item.
• 1.3 Enter the title
• 1.4 Set the state of the item.
• 1.5 Enter a description (optional).
• 1.6 Click Save
• 1.7 You have just added a Group!

• 2. Now go to Category Management.
• 2.1 Follow step 1 above.
• 2.2 Select Parent Category can be left as is for now as it is a feature we are going to utilize in the near future.
• 2.3 Click Select next to the Group field. A popup will show. Select the Group that you just created.
• 2.4 Default Content Item - we will come back to once we have created some content for this category. Note: this is only applicable when using Multiple Galleries.

• 3. Now go to Content Management.
• 3.1 Follow step 1 above.
• 3.2 This section depends whether you have the Video Plugin installed:
• 3.3a If you do not:
• 3.3a.1 Select the Joomla Article to link to (optional).
• 3.3a.2 Enter the full URL to link your content to (optional).
• 3.3b If you do, Select the Slide Link Type:
• 3.3b.1 Image (Default) for a normal slideshow image that will open up in a lightbox.
• 3.3b.2 Menu Item will slide down a menu link field where you can select the Joomla Menu item to link to.
• 3.3b.3 Content Article will slide down a Joomla Article field where you can select the Joomla Article to link to.
• 3.3b.4 Direct URL will slide down a text field for you to enter the full URL to link to.
• 3.3b.5 Video will slide down a few options:
• 3.3b.5.1 Video Type - select the type of video you would like to play (options are pretty straight forward to deduce).
• 3.3b.5.1 Video Dimension - select the video dimension of that the video will display in (options are pretty straight forward to deduce).
• 3.3b.5.1 Video URL - enter the url of your video link. For example if you go to http://www.youtube.com and find a video you would like, just copy the url from your web browsers address bar and enter it here. eg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjDroGie8mY (that is my friend by the way :)
• 3.3b.5.1 Video Dimension
• 3.4 Enter or select the date from the date picker
• 3.5 Select the Category that you have just created from the popup list.
• 3.6 Image section:
• 3.7 Click Select Image
• 3.7.1 Browse for your image to upload or select one already uploaded to the Image Manager. You can click browse again up to 10 times to select multiple images before uploading them.
• 3.7.2 Once the image(s) have been uploaded they are added to the Image Manager. Select the one you would like to use.
• 3.8 Click Save and you are done with adding your first content item. Repeat steps 9 to 14 to add more images.

• 2.4 Default Content Item Recap - Now that we have created our content items we can go back to the Category Manager and select the category to edit. Click Select next to Default Content Item.
• 2.4.1 Select the content item which will display as the gallery thumb in the Multiple Galleries eg. on our demo.

• 4. Now in Joomla go to Extensions -> Module Manager
• 4.1 In the Select Type filter, choose mod_kuposlidespro or Kupo Slides Pro (depending on your Joomla version).
• 4.2 Select the Kupo Slides Pro module to edit.
• 4.3 Module Parameters: Make sure to read each of the parameter fields instructions by hovering your mouse over the field label. Kupo Slides Template should not be changed to Kupo Slides Video as this is a plugin and not a template.

Once you have completed the necessary steps above you should be able to view your Kupo Slides and Galleries. If you are experiencing issues, they are usually server related or conflicts with JavaScript. As each website and server is setup differently it is impossible to cater for every possible combination out there.
