PNG Editing in Sublime

I love this template guys. It is truly fantastic. Lovably simple, and beautiful in its tones. So am having a go making a blue colour scheme for it. I'm not great with image edits though, and when trying to edit the faux_bg.png I hit some snags.

I was wondering if anyone has a spare minute, please could someone advise whether this faux_bg.png can be made into colour? And if not, how can I simply make the block grey, a transparent grey? I was thinking around 45%. This would let the background image leak into most of the page, and affect the colour scheme accordingly. Alternatively, the grey block could be coloured, but my attempt's at saving an optimised coloured version of this bg have failed so far.. I'm using Adobe ImageReady, is there another piece of software that will handle this better? Thanks for considering =)

LumoMongo replied Try faux_bg

Glad you like the template I have attached a 45% transparent faux_bg to this post - give it a try - however - just remember that without a solid PNG fix the alpha transparency will not work in IE6 - only index transparency (no shading), therefore I recon you should go your second route...

For the second route I would re-download the template (as I have updated the source file to include a new faux_bg slice, where you can change the faux_bg background and set it as you please).

I would highly recommend using Adobe Fireworks for all our source file editing, as the PNG layers are also sliced and optimized for web already, good luck with your site!

hungryOrb replied IE6 problem

I realise this IE6 problem, but IE6 has other issues that are bigger and badder than this, so I will discount this browser in the operation Really dislike the idea of accomodating out-of-date problems
Lumo, you are so very considerate! Thank you! I did, however, manage to find out the params. PNG-24 seems to do the trick.

This shading is beautiful! The template is so nice.. If you'd like a copy of the scheme to put somewhere, let me know. Not that you couldn't do it yourself, and I'm sure much better than mine ;P I should also say, I really like the site It's bright, fresh and has this sharp appeal! I feel a little overwhelmed..

By the way - Do you have any intermediate JS experience? Thanks so much!

LumoMongo replied Send link

Yes, it really is not cool having to constantly design and code from our side for IE6 standards, so annoying and totally silly... send me (support or contact or here) your link when you are done, would like to have a look as to what you have done with the template.

Javascript, Technical Coding and all that is handled by Skashi - I handle all marketing and design aspects at Theme Joomla. You can drop him (or me) a message in the support or contact areas if you need to, or if it is a general question post it here

hungryOrb replied Sublime's footer_bg.png please.

I was wondering if you could give me the base fireworks/psd file for Sublime's footer_bg.png? Can't quite seem to replicate the fade effect without going pixel by pixel.
Not far from finished this red theme now.

LumoMongo replied Updated source file

I have updated the source file with the footer - grab the updated sublime package from our downloads area. You will notice that the main area background has a shadow effect on it (open the PNG with Adobe Fireworks) - that's how we got the footer shadow.

Once again, send me a link when you done - keen to see variants of Sublime!

hungryOrb replied Ok I will try to figure this out.

Thanks again Lumo So kind! Haven't used fireworks for a while. Shall post link when finished!

LOVE the template! BTW. How ok are you with me disabling the Theme Joomla tag at top right? I would like to reference you guys, but in a more subtle way, probably in the footer. What do you think? Tell me honestly, I'd like to honor your work. BTW, do you use any messenger?

LumoMongo replied Fireworks is the best option

Yes, Fireworks is the best option - just load up the source document and then manipulate the layers in the right layers panel - easy! You can disable the Theme Joomla tag and reference it somewhere else, no problem. As for messenger, as soon as I get my mac, that will all be up and running again - will let you know

hungryOrb replied IE issues

Thanks for your reply. I was wondering if I could run something by you,.. again
I tried the template out in IE and Firefox yesterday, having been working on the different images, and previewing only in firefox. At which point I realise that IE does not load the template properly. As far as I know, I have changed no core detail, but I guess I'm mistaken. If you don't mind taking a look, here are the screenshots of both browsers:

You can see the header image (actually a slideshow) has shifted a little, and the right menus and items have relocated to the bottom. If you have no time or inclination no worries

P.S. Editing the fireworks .PNG I find the same problem as with photoshop. The drop shadow is an effect, and when the layer's transparency it is applied to, changes, so does the effect. Arg! I think simplest solution is to remake the drop shadow on both parts ;D

LumoMongo replied Check your CSS & dimensions

It seems that your header slide show image is causing some kind of padding on the slide images, which is throwing out your header and side panel (in internet exploder of course) I would recommend checking your CSS if there is any custom CSS for the slide show, and checking the dimensions as well... remember we have a very cool javascript CSS browser checker built into all of our templates, with which you can apply custom CSS for specific browsers, for example:

#header (width: 50px} // (will load in all browsers)
.ie #header {width: 40px;} // (will only load this style in IE)

So using that could solve your problem! besides that, good luck and your template is looking great!
Let me know if possible what the problem is, or if you need more help sorting it.

hungryOrb replied Nice little mod

Intarnat Explordder! arg. Your browser checker script is beautiful! Wow.. SO easy to tidy things up with it!
Looking through the mod's CSS is like looking through the desert for a tree! wow.. dry css! It's a nice little mod though..!

When layout's get shifted like that in IE, is it usually because of some unperfect dimensions, or is it a really bad render from IE? So scary!
