If you do not use the
.htaccess URL re-write, then your Joomla URL's will have the
/index.php/ folder in the URL. I recon this was done as a
"better than nothing solution".
If you want SEF URL's enabled, turn it
on in your global config and
select Use Apache mod_rewrite. Then once you have
saved that,
rename the htaccess.txt file to .htaccess.
View your frontend,
force-refresh your home page and all should be sorted! If that does not work, it could be that your host does not allow SEF or .htaccess re-writes, or that you have a conflicting component.
