Performance in IE

I am currently developing a new website using Joomla 1.5 and have managed to get the free Powerslide plugin working on the homepage, however performance isn't great within IE 7 & 8.

Simply, it is really slow and the fading action is jerky. I am also using the suckerfish module for the menu and have the same performance issues with this. There are no issues within Firefox, however this site is for the company I work for which have IE set up as default browsers on the machines and changing this is not a viable option. Thanks

LumoMongo replied Could be your Javascript

It could be that your Javascript (all of it) is not optimized for I.E. and therefore it is slowing everything down - IE tends to do this with JS...

Try load up our demo (powerslide.themejoomla.com) in I.E. and see if that runs smooth for you? if ours is smooth, you know its your site...

Also try "blanking" your template (just leave in the module position for Power Slide) and loading that to see if the gallery then loads fine... if so then you know it is the menu or other javascript conflicting...

Also send me (support [at]) your URL so I can have a look

lavender replied Demo's do work fine

Thanks for the quick reply. I just tried the demo's and they are smooth as silk in IE (don't know why i didn't think of trying this). Guess I'm gonna have to have a look at the JavaScript within the modified template I'm using. I would send you a link but it's on an internal development webserver. I will try "blanking" the site as well and try troubleshooting this way. Thanks for the help, but seeing those demo's in IE running fine seems to point to a problem with the Javascript in the template I'm using.

I wish I could not use IE as it would solve some other layout issues I'm having. Oh, how much easier web development would be without our beloved IE!

LumoMongo replied Transparent PNG elements

Just as a note - usually the speed culprit is transparent PNG elements - as internet exploder renders these in a really bad way - so if you find any of those - try take them out just to check

lavender replied Problem Solved!!

One of the articles which I had created for testing which was copied from the existing live site had a 3.5Mb JPG resized to 200px x 200px (article was created by another colleague). Once I removed this image and replaced it with a placeholder joomla one, the performance in IE was fine!

LumoMongo replied Images related

So I was close, it was images I use fireworks to optimize images by the way - really does it well for sites
