In version 2 (which is due in about a week) I believe you can align the carousel to the left / right / top - not sure about the bottom though, as it may interfere with the slide descriptions - but it may have also been coded in.

Lumo is correct in saying that this will be included in version 2, however the release date for next week is for Power Slide Pro 1.3.1, not Power Slide Pro 2.0. 1.3.1 will not include this functionality unfortunately.

Expected release date for Power Slide Pro 2.0 is mid Feb 2010.

That sounds great. but I've another question:
is it possible to define the section of the image, displayed in the slideshow?
For example when I would like to show an image in an "upright format" (is this the correct word?).
Do you know, what I mean?

I think I get what you are saying You are able to set the width and height of the Power Slide Display Module but it will be fixed and will not adjust to the image dimensions.

So best would be to have all your images more or less the same width and height per gallery and then you can change the dimensions accordingly in another gallery.
