You need to read the instructions below the upgrade file links. They explain how to upgrade your Kupo Slides Pro version:

These are direct version updates (above). Just extract the file and upload the contents to the base directory of your Joomla installation directory and the relevant files will be updated.
Make sure to backup your current Kupo Slides Pro files especially if you made any css changes as they might get overwritten.

If you have Kupo 2.3.3 or higher you can use Joomla's built in version update (Extension Manager -> Update) to update your Kupo component and module. This is only for Joomla 1.6/1.7.

I followed the directions and when I tried to update from the install direcory I got the following message:
Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
Path does not have a valid package.

You are trying to install or run the update from Joomla which is not what the instructions are telling you. You need to extract the zip file to your local machine and then copy across the files to the base directory of your server (as stated in the quoted text above)

I have extracted the files locally and uploaded them to both my Joomla base directory and my Joomla install directory which is temp/. Nothing has changed and my Kupo control panel still says version 2.24. Should I be doing anything else?

Am I supposed to upload and oveerwrite the existing Kupo Pro files? It doesn't say that in the instructions but I followed the instructions, unzipped locally and uploaded the folder named "kuposlidespro.J16.upgrade.2.2.x.to.2.3.3" to my base Joomla installation directory.

I take that to mean the directory where Joomla is installed. In case I interpreted it wrong, I also uploaded it to my tmp/ directory which is where Joomla installs from.

You need to replace the files on your server with the ones you have uploaded. At the moment all you have done is copy them to a folder called "kuposlidespro.J16.upgrade.2.2.x.to.2.3.3" which will not have any effect whatsoever. You need to copy the files and folders inside this folder to your base directory so that it can replace your current files. It will only replace the necessary Kupo files and not the rest of your Joomla installation.

I uploaded the files, replacing the older versions. After the uploaded was complete I went into Joomla admin and opened the Kupo control panel. I noticed the "new version icon" was still there so I clicked on it and it was about the 2.3.3 upgrade again. I went into the components on the Joomla install/uninstall section to see if it would show the rev of Kupo and next to the Kupo entry where it usually shows the version, date, author, etc. the fields are all blank.

So I uploaded the files again in case some of the files didn't completely upload, went back into the kupo control panel and the component uninstall section and the results were the same as the first time I uploaded the files.

Any advise?

The reason why the version, date, author, etc. is blank is because of file permission issues of the newly uploaded files. You need to set the new files you just updated to 644 or 664 (depending on your server setup). If you go to the Kupo Control Panel it will display the current version you have i.e. Version: 2.3.3, built by Theme Joomla, Single Site License unless otherwise purchased.

If it shows that the version is 2.3.3 in the Kupo Control Panel then you updated Kupo correctly.

Alternatively I can send you the latest full version. You will have to uninstall the current component and module and then install the latest versions from the zip package. Your category and content items will not get deleted. Only your modules will have to be set again. Email skashi[at]themejoomla.com if you want to get the latest version and include the email address you used to purchase your product so that I can send you the latest Kupo version.
