Duplicate modules - help needed!

I mentioned this on a different post, and thought it would be straightforward to do. I've only ever duplicated components before, simply by adding a few suffixes to a handful of files. With the module it seems it is tied to the component that is already installed, so I cannot simply create a duplicate module folder with renamed files, upload via FTP, and have it display in the Module manager? Doing it the .zip install way, the installer stopped when trying to create a tmp/install folder, saying that "install_(random string) /cache/index.html does not exist". Is there a simple solution that I have overlooked for creating a separate, customizable module? Thanks

EDIT: Ha, ha! You click a button in admin. I hope the next generation of amateur coders like me will realise that it wasn't always this easy!

There is actually another way to do it which allows for separate files and folders (module specific) - which is basically what you were doing... the built in admin way allows for different variables... anyways nice one!
